| Description | Provides comprehensive care for women throughout normal pregnancy, labour and birth, and for both women and their babies for up to six weeks following the birth (postpartum care) * midwives can order all tests and ultrasounds, and most medications pertaining to healthy, low-risk pregnancies * for more information about registered midwives, visit the College of Midwives of Ontario The midwife sees pregnancy and childbirth as normal states for a healthy mother and provides continuity of care throughout the pregnancy, birth and postpartum period offering choice of birthplace, informed choice and continuity of care.
